He's too self-absorbed.

It's almost weird to use those words in relation to Charlie, just because he's not the "normal" kind of self-involved (showy, talks too much, thinks too highly of himself, etc.), but it's so true. He would forget to feed them. And maybe ignore crying in favor of finishing his thought... which would invariably lead to a new thought...
