Don had made up his mind.

He'd decided to put this whole sick twisted fascination with his brother behind him.

Charlie could never know how he felt about him. It was his job to protect his little brother, even if it was from his own perverted obsession.

He was going to pick up the phone, call Nadine and ask her out like everyone expected him to.

He was going to take her out for dinner a few times, and when she invited him back to her place, he was going to fuck her senseless like the macho FBI guy he was supposed to be.

He was not going to think of his brother when he did it.

That was his New Year's Resolution.

Charlie had made up his mind.

He was tired of dancing around the issue with Don, had been ever since they'd put their mother's death behind them and started working together.

The casual touches, the sweet smiles, the caring tone in his voice as he said 'buddy' when no one was around to hear...

Don was slowly driving him insane and Charlie couldn't stand it anymore.

He'd seen the lust and guilt in Don's eyes when he thought Charlie wasn't looking.

He knew Don secretly wanted him, he knew he wanted Don and he knew they both knew why it was wrong.

He just didn't care.

He was going to wait until they were alone at Don's apartment and when Don sat too close to him on the couch again, he was going to grab him and kiss him without giving him time to protest.

Don might punch him or he might kiss him back.

But his brother was all he could think of, so he had to do it.

That was his New Year's Resolution.

This Prologue portion of Conflict and Resolutions was originally what I wrote for this challenge weeks ago. My betas said that I couldn't stop here so I didn't. I now have 48 pages of fic spanning the entire fic of Conflict and Resolutions and a companion piece entitled Ash and Pines. I'll be posting both 24 page fic on my LJ, but this original portion I'm posting here ad hoc since it was what I wrote for the challenge. I think it stands alone just fine, but I figure it can't be bad to add almost 50 pages to it. It's just no longer 'flashfic' at that point. ;-)

LOL! Well my betas agreed with you! They wanted to see the outcome so I wrote 24 pages of what happens next, essentially from Don's POV.

Once that was done one of them had to ask for Charlie's POV so now I have *two* 24 page fic with the same story!

Suddenly I'm grateful this isn't one of my threesome or foursome stories! ;-)

Well patience might be a good virtue to have about now! Not only will it take me quite a while to beta and edit the rest of this story, *reading* all 48 pages of it will take some patience as well! LOL!

Sorry! My understanding of flash fic is that it's not supposed to be long epic sagas. I really did write this with the intent of posting it as is. I just wouldn't have heard the end of it from my betas if I hadn't written more though. ;-)

I'll try to get the rest done, but just know it won't be posted here - it'll be on my LJ.

Hee! Great prologue. I believe the unspoken second resolution of each brother includes copious amounts of melted chocolate. Bitter for Don and sweet for Charlie. :-)

Wow, for a mere prologue this fic got a lot of comments! Thankfully the 'more' is all written so there shouldn't be a horrible wait for it. I just hate editing and polishing, but I should at least try to get the first 24 pages out and released so people don't go nuts waiting to hear the rest of the story. ;-)
