Title: Another Addition
Characters: Alan Eppes, Benjamin Eppes (OMC)
Rating: G
Word Count: 268
Spoilers: None
Summary: Benji brings home a new member of the Eppes family.
Notes/Warnings: Set in my Flash alternate universe. Takes place after Hot Shot. Seems pointless, I know, but it’s setting something up for the upcoming fic that’s during-and-post-Spree, which will be written as soon as possible. And yes, the kitten is based on a real kitten,
jestana’s Gandalf, in fact. Also, I shamelessly stole some lines from 10 Things I Hate About You, see if you can spot them. *grin*
Another Addition
Ben snuck into the house; his leather jacket wrapped tightly around his slender body and crept across the entryway to the stairs.
“Stop!” Ben froze at the strident voice. “Turn,” Ben turned towards the living room-cum-library, guiltily meeting Alan’s eyes. “Explain,” Alan instructed, his eyes on the bulge in Ben’s jacket.
Ben bit his lip as he shuffled closer. “Well, you remember me telling you Karin’s cat, Patches, was having kittens?”
“Uh-huh,” Alan said, drawing out the words.
“Well, um,” Ben stopped, scuffing his boot against the rug.
“Stop that and tell me what’s in your jacket,” Alan admonished.
Ben unzipped his coat; there was a soft brrt and a triangular blue-grey head popped up. Ben eyed Alan worriedly. “He was the only who didn’t have a home.”
Alan sighed as he stood from his chair then walked over to look more closely at the kitten. The kitten yawned, the soft pink of his mouth contrasting sharply against his dark fur. Alan’s brown eyes softened and he looked at Ben. “Your responsibility.”
Ben nodded emphatically. “I know. I’ll take complete care of him, I’ll buy his food, buy his toys, play with him, everything.”
“Buy his litter box?” Alan queried, one eyebrow raised questioningly.
Ben paled and looked down at the kitten. The kitten looked up at him innocently. “Right,” he said in a strangled voice. “’Scuse me,” he muttered before bolting for the stairs.
Alan sniffed the air then laughed softly. “Put that shirt in the wash as soon as possible, Benji!” He called up the stairs.
“I know!” Ben called back. A moment later, Alan heard a resounding ‘EWWW!’ and laughed again.
End.
