Note: Dedicated to my F-list, I know, the best thank you for you guys is fic.
The wig helped and the two days growth on his jaw, add to that the thick glasses and no one would recognize him, well, no one would recognize him as Don Eppes, FBI, he was currently up to his shoulders in excited, adolescent math and science geeks and their mothers.
All of whom knew exactly who he was.
He didn’t do this very often, it was difficult to explain if he was called away for a case, but his agent was begging and if he received anymore autograph requests at his apartment someone might notice something.
Especially since the requests came addressed to Eon Deppes.
Everyone needed a hobby. He just happened to write and draw graphic novels.
Very popular graphic novels.
Graphic novels that relied heavily on the mathematical genius of their hero, by day a stereotypically mild-mannered, rather dorky, math teacher at an inner-city high school.
By night with the help of the deranged experiments of his best friend, an equally mild-mannered and dorky physics teacher and some magical chalk once owned by Pythagoras, he becomes a crime-fighting force to be reckoned with – evil-doers beware.
He promised his agent he would do a signing for two hours at this convention and he would donate a signed over-sized cover proof from his first graphic novel to an auction being held at the close of the Con to raise money for new computers and science equipment for schools destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
His two hours ended and he made a quick exit through a back door.
Eight hours later, case closed and his apartment dark and quiet he took a break from his latest volume to see the result of the auction.
He glanced over the Con website until he found a notice about the auction.
He scrolled down through the memorabilia to his offering and his jaw dropped.
Autographed cover proof, Eon Deppes – Bidding closed – winning bid: $250,000
He let out a low whistle, someone was crazy, he might have to start checking his fan mail for signs of possible stalkers.
Three weeks later, he was even more surprised to find his signed cover-proof framed and hanging in his brother’s office.
“Comic books, Chuck?”
“Graphic novels thank you very much.” Charlie grumbled. “The man’s a genius.”
Don hid his smirk behind a file. “Takes one to know one, I guess.”
