Title: Ice, Ice, Baby
Author: ALF
Pairing/Characters: Don Eppes; OMC
Rating/Category: Gen
Word Count: 220
Summary: Don Eppes celebrates a special win
Notes/Warnings: Okay, kinda kid!fic - certainly a teenage Don. OMC is actually Jack O'Neill, so technically a crossover, except not. Definitely AU, probably crack!fic too. I'd already been toying with this idea before the challenge appeared, although originally it was gonna be slash, but I think this works better...
Don Eppes finished his routine with a flourish and came to a stop on the ice amidst loud applause and screams of approval from the crowd. He took his bows and waved to the crowd, before skating off the rink, to where his coach, Jack O'Neill was waiting for him. They hugged briefly, and then went to sit and wait for Don's scores. Several young girls brought him the myriad flowers and gifts that were thrown to the ice in appreciation of his performance. Jack gripped his shoulder as they waited for the announcement.
The loud speaker crackled to life and the scores flashed up on the big screen. Don couldn't hear the announcer over the din of the crowd, but he could clearly see the line of 6.0 scores going up across the board. After a brief pause, the second set of scores followed, and again, it was a row of perfect sixes.
Don sat in stunned silence. He knew he'd been good today, but hadn't realised exactly how good. Jack dragged him into his arms, hugging him hard, slapping his back and Don wished his parents were there to see him. World Junior Championship gold medallist, aged fifteen, but somehow, ten-year-old Charlie's math antics were still more important to them than Don's skating success. Some things never changed.
