Spoilers: Through 1.09 Sniper Zero.
Summary: Don’s nightmare.
Notes/Warning: Tag for 1.09 Sniper Zero. Angst. I heard a song on the radio the other day which inspired this prompt, and which I thought would prove inspirational for a fic, but after last night’s ep, lying in bed, this drabble came to me, and I had to get up and write it down.

Every night for a week Don has the same dream. He hears the crack of the rifle shot; he sees Charlie standing there, unaware. He screams Charlie’s name, but there’s no sound.

Chaos erupts around him, but it all happens in absolute silence.

David turns, then runs toward Charlie, his mouth open, calling out Charlie’s name, but no sound emerges.

Don knows that David reaches Charlie in time, takes him down to the ground before the bullet gets there. Knows that Charlie is safe.

But in the dream the bullet always arrives first.

When Charlie falls there’s blood.

And silence.

Ahhhh, nooooo! I'd rather have it be a bad dream than real!!! An angst fest, I'm guessing? *g*

Aye, very much so. 'Canon' Colby ends up in an alternate universe where Charlie was killed by the sniper and Don's an alcoholic, Alan blames Don for Charlie's death, David's probably a bit of an alcoholic because he's the one that took Charlie to the scene, and the Colby of the AU is dead because Charlie wasn't there to push the team into trusting him and rescuing him from the freighter. Needless to say, 'canon' Colby comes home feeling rather grateful that Charlie's still around in his universe.

That . . . actually sounds really good! Love those details/results of Charlie's death. And I can deal better with the angst when I know that Colby gets to go back to a world where Charlie still exists. *g*
